Skate fishing trips are by prior arrangement
The skate is one of the largest fishes found around the British coast. Fish to about 200lbs
and 6ft or more from nose to tail can be caught.They are deepwater
fish, often living below 300 feet. The Sound of Jura provides an ideal habitat.
'Gemini' is a stable boat, with space enough to land these large fishes and
comfortable for the long process of bringing the fish to the surface.
The fish are recorded if they have already been tagged, measured
and returned at once to the sea. Untagged fish are also measured and given a tag to add
to the records kept at Glasgow University as part of a continuing conservation project.
